What is Reason?
Reason by Reason Studios is a comprehensive music production software platform designed to serve as both a full-featured Digital Audio Workstation and a versatile virtual rack plugin. Built by a company with over twenty years of history in creating virtual music gear, Reason eliminates the friction of managing disconnected hardware or rigid software layouts. By providing a unified virtual rack environment, it solves the problem of creative stagnation and rigid workflows. You can flexibly route audio and MIDI via virtual patch cables, combine over 90 instruments and effects, and mix, record, and sequence tracks smoothly in one place.
Whether you are looking to build complex modular synthesizer chains or simply need a reliable environment to record your latest song, Reason adapts seamlessly to your creative process.
Main Benefits of Reason
The platform is built around the philosophy that making music should be intuitive, inspiring, and endlessly customizable. One of the greatest advantages is the virtual rack interface, which mimics physical studio hardware. You can flip the rack around to see all the cable routings, giving you tactile control over how your instruments and effects interact.
Another major benefit is versatility. You do not have to abandon your current setup to enjoy what Reason offers. Thanks to the Reason Rack Plugin, you can load your favorite Reason instruments and effects directly inside other major DAWs like Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live. With over 90 instruments and effects included in packages like Reason+, you get flagship tools such as the RV-9 Reverb Station and the Osmium Distortion Matrix right out of the box.
